fall wedding at the farm at the old edwards inn pintopinterest What fun we had documenting Sarah and Matt’s beautiful fall wedding at The Farm at the Old Edwards Inn. Friends and family of Sarah and Matt’s traveled in from all over the United States and beyond. Sarah got ready in the big, beautiful farmhouse on the property with her mom and bridesmaids. We were thrilled to do a first look and have some time to photograph the wedding party as well as bride and groom portraits before their stunning ceremony in the orchard. Sarah’s father officiated a very sweet wedding ceremony among the apple trees as guests circled around them. Following their “I dos”, guests retreated to have cocktails on the patios surrounding the pavilion. A fabulous reception commenced shortly after with beautiful details, dinner, dancing and a stunning sparkler exit…. We were there to capture it all!

Matt and I absolutely fell in love with the area surrounding the Old Edwards Inn… It’s a photographer and outdoor enthusiast’s dream! asheville vineyard wedding detailspintopinterest It’s Wednesday guys… This Asheville wedding photographer is going to share some of our favorite alternatives to traditional seating charts that we’ve seen over the last few years! We love to photograph weddings that have unique twists – basically we believe anything different or nontraditional rocks!!! When it comes to planning your wedding, focusing on the details is a great way to add your own spin on things!! Today I’ve compiled a list of our favorite alternative seating plans! zama beach club wedding details pintopinterest Melissa and Ray’s Zama Beach Club wedding on beautiful Isla Mujeres had the most amazing beach details. Their “message in a bottle” seating assignments had a very destination wedding feel! With a smaller guest count and just 3 tables…. everyone enjoyed meandering under the lanterns to find the bottle with their name on it! asheville luxury wedding detailspintopinterest Gia and Michael’s elegant mountain wedding had (still to this day) some of the most beautiful details I’ve ever seen. Their florist created these beautiful rustic yet elegant seating tags strung in birch branches… Guests found the tag with their names as they strolled from cocktail hour into a magnificent 5-tiered Sperry Tent. asheville estate wedding details pintopinterest These key tags hung on a vintage wood backdrop were adorable! On the tables in the reception tent were corresponding door handles for guests to find. old edwards inn wedding details pintopinterest Sarah and Matt’s fall wedding at the Old Edwards Inn in the mountains of WNC had paper airplanes folded with guests names and table number. For a destination or travel-themed wedding I thought this was perfect! cute asheville wedding details pintopinterest These custom-cut wooden hearts with the guests names on the front side and table number on the back were so, so cute! Guests could take this home at the end of the night as a momento! I also loved the way these were presented in a beautiful wooden box with moss and birch wood. beautiful flower seating arrangement for asheville wedding pintopinterest This was one of the most beautiful + practical ways for seating your guests. As cocktail hour ended, guests found the vase of flowers with their name attached and carried it to their table. A seating chart, a variety of decoration for the tables and a favor for your friends and family to take home… all in one! So pretty too! birch tree asheville wedding detailpintopinterest Simple, rustic cards placed on beautiful handcut birch logs made the perfect seating arrangement for Rachel and Michael’s candlelit winter wedding. asheville wedding seating chart detail pintopinterest For a wedding with lots of kids, these pinwheels with names and a table number on them would be a huge hit. It’s fun, slightly whimsical and you can get them in any color combination you wish to complement your wedding colors!

tulum mexico wedding photographerpintopinterest Those who know us know we absolutely love a good adventure… Photographing destination weddings like our most recent – Melissa and Ray’s Zama Beach Club Wedding – have led to some of our most favorite adventures together! The image above was taken in beautiful Tulum. The day after one of our weddings in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, Matt and I had a few hours to explore… We took the local bus down the coastline to Tulum. We explored the famous Tulum Ruins and walked down the road to Tulum Beach. Man, what a beach! I think our kids could spend hours happily playing in the warm crystal blue waters. We look forward to our next adventure to beautiful Mexico! Thanks so much to our amazing brides and grooms who have had us join them for their amazing destination weddings! rough ridge engagement photopintopinterest Last weekend I traveled from Asheville over to Blowing Rock area on the Blue Ridge Parkway for Cathie and Tod’s adventurous engagement session!! It’s safe to say we had a blast and absolutely cannot wait to document their wedding next month at the gorgeous Oskar Blues REEB Ranch! Being avid mountain bikers (honestly, avid is an understatement…these two are seriously bad ass) and all-around outdoor adventurers, we wanted to incorporate their love for bikes and the mountains in their images.

We started out the session near the town of Blowing Rock at Julian Price Memorial Park. They played on bikes and I took photos!!! Once we took some pictures there, we headed down the Blue Ridge Parkway to a stunning rocky outcropping called Rough Ridge!!! Oh my gosh, the views… it is so beautiful up there!! I can’t wait to return there for another session or even just for some adventuring with the family!

A huge thank you to Cathie and Tod who were game to explore some new places and create some awesome images together!!! I can not wait to see you guys again in just a few weeks for your wedding!!! blowing rock engagement photographerpintopinterest julian price memorial park engagementpintopinterest The light up in the mountains was just beautiful that evening! mountain biking engagement photo in asheville pintopinterest Playing… out of my element shooting bikes, but these two humored me and rode back and forth so I could play! biking engagement photospintopinterest biking engagement session in asheville pintopinterest Can you tell these two are fun to be around?!? rough ridge engagement at sunset pintopinterest The light up at the top of Rough Ridge was beautiful but fading quickly on the other side of Grandfather Mountain. pintopinterest rough ridge engagement session by asheville photographerpintopinterest We made the best of the remaining light we had up in the mountains! romantic adventure engagement session pintopinterest Love the image above… They warned me how hard it was to get serious/romantic images of the two of them. asheville summer camp wedding pintopinterest Since today’s post is all about maximizing your time together on your wedding day… why not hijack a canoe and go for a paddle like Case and Dan did during their summer camp wedding in the mountains!

It’s Wednesday again and guess what that means?! Yup… This Asheville wedding photographer is going to get on her soapbox and share some well-meaning wedding planning advice!!! Just in case you missed it, here is my last Wedding Tip Wednesday post about planning a fun + authentic asheville engagement session! I hope you’ll check back on Friday when I’ll share a pretty awesome recent engagement session I photographed – the couple chose an activity (biking) and a beautiful location, and we had a blast creating Meaningful + Authentic + Adventurous images and it was the bomb!!!!

Anyway… on to today’s post!!! What’s it about?!?! I know, I know you can hardly wait…. Ready. Set. Let’s Go…

Trust me when I say your wedding day is going to fly by – like “blink”, and it’s over fast….It can be pretty easy to get caught up in the little details and lose yourselves in the wedding day whirlwind. Today I’m going to share a few suggestions that will help you make the most of your big day together!!! We hope you’ll consider adding one of these intimate experiences to your wedding day timeline. Some of the ideas are becoming more common while others would break common wedding day traditions! asheville farm wedding photo of bride and groom getting readypintopinterest Get Ready Together
Now, first I’ll say we’ve had just two couples out of the 100+ weddings we’ve photographed who have chosen to get ready together. What a sweet, intimate start to the day these two couples had, though!!! I understand you would be throwing custom to the wayside, but if you have a small wedding party – or perhaps no wedding party at all – this could be a perfect fit!

dominican republic wedding photopintopinterest First Look
You should know how much we love first looks… I mean, really love first looks… You see, not only does it mean you’ll get to enjoy some extra time together on your Asheville wedding day. There are plenty of other perks, such as setting time aside to do wedding party and family pictures before your ceremony so that everyone can go to cocktail hour after you say “I Do”!!! Plus it allows you a much more intimate experience seeing each other for the first time without all of your guests looking on! Every one of our couples who choose to do a first look raves about how amazing the experience was and how thankful they are to have the extra time to enjoy each other’s company before the party starts!! Okay, so I think you get as Asheville wedding photographers just how much we love first looks. (I’m already working on a blog post that is all about this – can’t wait, huh???!!!)

or
asheville wedding photographer vow exchangepintopinterest No Peak First Look
Not all of our couples are sold on the idea of a first look and that’s okay – we understand it’s not for everyone!!! Sometimes called “blind first look” or “no peek first look”… We encourage every one of our couples to take 10 minutes at some point during getting ready/before your wedding ceremony to hold hands… Share a private moment with each other. This is a good time to exchange cards or even a special gift. We usually find a door, the corner of a building or a big tree to position the bride and groom close enough to whisper to each other and hold hands but not in a position where you will see each other before your ceremony. It’s always a big hit and tends to calm any pre-wedding jitters… asheville wedding photo in the woodspintopinterest Read Your Vows in Private
Speaking your vows to each other can be a very personal experience – We’ve had many couples who choose to share their vows with each other in a more intimate setting before or after the ceremony! Sometimes couples opt to go with a more traditional vow at the altar and then write their own private vows to each other during a different moment of the day. Other times they will write a shorter version of their vows to share with friends and family during their wedding ceremony and then whisper an extended version to each other before or after they say their I dos! I think we can agree that reading your vows in private is a great way to spend a little extra time together on your big day. asheville wedding in the mountainspintopinterest Post Ceremony Getaway or in Jewish Tradition “The Yihud”
Following a Jewish ceremony many couples choose a tradition that I personally believe all couples should have!!! In a day filled with chaos, the yihud — or “seclusion” — is a ritual that lets you focus on the day’s true purpose – your new partnership. Immediately after the ceremony, the bride and groom retreat to a private room (or place… for some of our couples it’s been a mountaintop or under a giant tree) for 15 minutes of personal time. No in-laws, no seating arrangement charts, no photographer or videographer. Just you and your new spouse enjoying each other’s company… Perhaps with a drink in hand! pintopinterest And…Possibly (Possibly Selfish) Our Favorite | Sneak Away for Sunset Pictures
When we’re giving timeline advice to our couples, our one and only request is having 15 minutes (or more if possible!) with our couples around sunset for some romantic + fun portraits! Enjoy some quiet time away from the whirlwind of celebrating to just be with each other…. Enjoying each other’s company and reflecting on the amazing day you’ve been having! You get some extra time together and some amazing images… it’s a win-win!!!
