Who are we hiring?

AMW Studios is an artistic documentary wedding photography team made up of two Boston-based photographers: Ariel Mandeville and Matthew Wynne. To find out more about us click here. Together we provide fun, artistic and unobtrusive coverage and deliver to you colorful, candid and emotionally-rich photographs of your special day.

What is your style?

Our goal for your wedding is to capture the day as it unfolds in its candid and completely natural way. We want our photographs to be a reflection of who you are as a couple. With that said, we are artists hired for our unique eye. Some of our best images have come from being created rather than captured. The goal when we create an image is to make it look as seamless and natural as possible. Throughout our time with you on your wedding day, something is bound to catch our eye: the soft light coming through the window or the unique architecture of a room. As time allows we will run with the idea until we are 100% happy with the resulting photo. Sometimes a big concern for couples is formals and the amount of time they will take. When it comes to formals, Matt and I work together efficiently to create fun, creative and spontaneous portraits. We know that every couple will have a different wish when it comes to formals. Some couples will want just one large group shot of all of their family and friends, while others will want to spend some time capturing different combinations of smaller groups; some even will want to spend a couple hours creating awesome images in multiple locations. We will work together with you to create a timeframe for pictures that reflect what is most important to you. Most importantly, we want you to be able to relax and enjoy every second of your wedding day, after working so hard to plan it!!

Do you travel for weddings?

Absolutely! In addition to photographing weddings throughout Massachusetts and New England, Matt and I have and will travel throughout the US and internationally for wedding commissions. So, if you’re currently in the process of planning your destination wedding and are looking for the right photographer, we’d love to hear from you!

How many weddings do you shoot in a month?

Matt and I generally book about 3-4 weddings a month. We love photographing weddings and we want to keep it that way!

The time we spend photographing your wedding is about 25% percent of the time we actually devote to each couple who hires us. Most of our time is spent communicating with our clients (including in person meetings, over the phone and email), shooting the engagement session, location-scouting, equipment prepping, driving/flying….and the 30-40 hours we spend post-wedding carefully processing all of your images. We find if we book no more than 5 weddings in a month, this allows us to provide clients with the personal and attentive service we want to give anyone who hires us! For more about the work that goes into each wedding, see the question below.

Besides the day of… what else goes into photography for our wedding?

Many clients, and even newer photographers, have a notion that a wedding photographer travels somewhere for the day, photographs, delivers the images to a client and is done. The reality is – a lot goes on behind the scenes before we deliver that final product to the client. Here are some examples of steps we take to ensure that our business is offering the best service and product possible to our clients.

  • We spend weeks, months and sometimes over a year meeting and building relationships with our couples. From the first consultation until the wedding day, we stay in touch with the couple, going over details for the day and as it gets closer…making sure of last minute details.
  •
A few months before your wedding we meet and photograph the engagement session.
  •
The night before your wedding we take all of our gear out so that we can charge batteries, sync cameras, format memory cards and test to make sure all our gear is functioning properly.
We verify directions, weather and make a game plan.
  •
The day of, we arrive 45 minutes to an hour earlier than the contracted start time.
  •
We shoot throughout the day, arrive home that night sometimes very late and the first thing we do is to download all our memory cards. We don’t go to bed until your images are backed up onto one of our hard drives.
  •
The next day we archive all the photographs – this includes renaming, key wording, rating and sorting. After this is complete, we begin processing your images. This whole process can take anywhere between 15 and 50 hours.
  •
Within a week we upload a slide show to our website for you and your family and friends to view. This slide show consists of approximately 100 or so of our absolute favorite images, set to music.
  •
Approximately 30 days later all of your images are placed in an online gallery for viewing and purchasing prints.
  •
We then spend between 3-6 hours custom designing your album. (if you ordered one)
  •
Followed by fulfilling any print or additional album orders

How many images will we have from our wedding?

Matt and I guarantee that you will have at least 500 final images. We usually take about 50 shots an hour (each) to make sure we’re capturing everything. We then edit out any images that just don’t end up working for a variety of reasons – light testing, eyes closed, guests flash fires and results in an over-exposed image, etc. One thing is certain – we will provide you with images that tell the complete story of your wedding day!

When will our images be ready?

Within two weeks of your wedding we will have gone through your images and picked our favorite 75-100 images from the day, fully processed them and put them together in an online slideshow! In the following weeks we will be working hard to process the remaining images, as well as put together an initial album layout (if applicable)! You’re proofing gallery and album layout will be ready to view within 30 Days of your wedding date!

What kind of gear do you use?

Matt and I use all top of the line Nikon equipment to document your wedding day.

Do you carry backup equipment?

We do! Between us we have five camera bodies along with a full selection of varying focal length lenses. In addition we carry plenty of flashes, batteries and lots of spare memory.

Why should we hire you?

Matt and I not only run a business together; we also live together and are raising a family together. We know how the other works and what each other’s strengths and weaknesses are. We’re used to working together and almost intuitively know where the other is throughout your wedding day. Our styles blend seamlessly together so that we can give you images that best tell the story of your day: from all the big moments (the first kiss or the first time a groom sees his bride-to-be) to all the little ones (dad wiping a tear from his daughter’s face right before she walks down the aisle). Matt and I love our work and we love every wedding we shoot together!

Also…

We assume you’ve spent some time looking around our website and at the images in our galleries. If you like our work, that’s the first step! Matt and I both strongly feel that when choosing your photographer, how well you “click” with him/her plays such an important part in the ultimate decision of who to hire. Who do you want spending the majority of the day with you (and your family) on one of the most amazing and emotional days of your life? If you think Matt and I might be the ones, drop us a note and let’s get together over coffee. We’d love to get to know you and your fiance as well as hear all about your wedding plans!
