Kalalau beach sunset - Kauai destination wedding photographypintopinterest Kauai has got to be one of my favorite places I’ve ever been. It’s indescribably beautiful and diverse. Fun fact – my parents and I moved there when I was 6 months old and we lived happily on that gorgeous Hawaiian island until I was almost 7. I traveled back to Kauai a couple times as a kid and then once as a teenager (actually right before I traveled to Boston for school, met Matt and… well… the rest is history). This photo is taken at Kalalau Beach on Kauai’s legendary Napali Coast. The only way to access this stunning beach is either by boat or hiking the 11 mile Kalalau Trail. Just a side note…you do need a permit to hike beyond Hanakapiai Beach and camp overnight in the spectacular Kalalau Valley. This photo of sunset on Kalalau Beach is one of the only photos I have from my last trip to Kauai. The first time I experienced this trail, I did so from up high on my dad’s back. Years later I was able to hike it myself. What a rewarding hike it is! To be able to share this beautiful place with my kids and Matt one day is an absolute must…. I see a Kauai trip in our future!

alaska adventure and wedding photographerpintopinterest Those of you who know us are aware of just how much we love traveling and adventure – pretty much anything outdoors! Alaska is a place that is so near and dear to my heart… Goodness knows there are plenty of outdoor adventures to be had in this great state! Before I moved to Boston where I began studying photography professionally (this is where Matt and I met!), I spent most of my summers working and exploring in Alaska! My awesome aunt and uncle live there and my mom has an adorable cabin right near the Wrangell – St Elias Mountain Range.

These three images I’m sharing in this post are from my last summer in Alaska… My best friend Mattie and I took a couple days to camp in Denali National Park. The day we arrived in Denali was cloudy but spectacular as we traveled by bus to Wonder Lake Campground. It rained that night; there was no view of Denali and a swarm of LARGE mosquitos chased us to bed early after we managed to scarf down some food! The next morning we woke up, unsure what to expect. You guys…I will forever remember unzipping the tent to see Denali – RIGHT THERE – not a cloud covering this stunning mountain! Posting these images I took quite a few years ago makes me so excited to travel back there again!

I know Matt and I would absolutely love to explore this beautiful state soon! Know anyone getting married in Alaska? Let them know about us! We always love adventuring to new locations to photograph weddings! Also, we don’t charge travel fees!! We offer one flat-rate wedding collection to travel anywhere in the United States. This collection not only includes comprehensive wedding day coverage – it also includes a fun day-after session to really capture the awesome location where you were married! alaska outdoor adventure photographerpintopinterest Denali wedding photographerpintopinterest How beautiful is the highest peak in North America!

Oh gosh guys, I am so excited to share this gorgeous Asheville wedding with you today! Allison and Graham were all smiles throughout their entire wedding day – let’s just say these two made our job pretty easy! Thank you both so much for having us there to document your day! We also got to work at a new (for us!) Asheville wedding venue – The Venue and it fast became one of our favorite Asheville places we’ve photographed so far! Not only was the space gorgeous, it offered a variety of options for photographing our couple and their wedding party on a very hot/humid and sometimes rainy (welcome to WNC) day… AND Stephanie and her team at The Venue were so accommodating. They were such a pleasure to work with!! We hope you enjoy some of our favorites from Allison and Graham’s wedding! AMWStudiosWeddingPortrait-30pintopinterest Just a heads up… This post might be a little selfish because admittedly the time I have with a bride and her wedding party before the ceremony (or first look!) is one of my favorite times of the day!!! Now this post isn’t here to encourage you to book the most expensive suite at a hotel, on the contrary… many of my favorite getting ready locations have included summer camp lodges, the parents’ home (or even the bride and groom’s home!), a cabin, etc… anyplace with character and light (maybe some cool furniture?!) takes the cake!

Here are some basic suggestions I have to ensure that your “getting ready” images set a beautiful tone for the rest of your wedding day!

newYearsEveWedding-17pintopinterest awesome wedding shoes from destination wedding in mexicopintopinterest gorgeous lace wedding gown in asheville mountain cabinpintopinterest Character…Make sure your chosen space has a little character! It could be in the form of bright, funky colors as represented in the photo above – from a fabulous destination wedding in Mexico. It could be a space with fabulous chic furniture – Doesn’t Laura look beautiful on that gorgeous red couch!! AMWStudios-4pintopinterest An uncluttered space… I know wedding days are exciting and hectic, but if you and the girls (or heck… just delegate this job to the girls!) can spend 5 minutes doing a quick clean up before I arrive… this will make a huge difference in your photos!!! If the room is not clean when I come in I will spend a few minutes cleaning up, but to maximize my time behind the camera, it’s fabulous if the room is already picture-ready! AMWStudios-88pintopinterest lace wedding gown hangs in dark wood barn next to gorgeous pink bouquetpintopinterest Allie-Beau-2pintopinterest Light … Preferably great light, in the form of big windows or skylights! Having good natural light is key to getting awesome getting-ready images! Just a note…Having good light is not just key for great images but it also helps your hair and makeup artists too!!! beautiful asheville bride puts her earrings on in the mirrorpintopinterest asheville bridal portrait during weddingpintopinterest isla mujeres bride during her destination wedding in mexicopintopinterest Space – Having enough room for you and your wedding party to hang out and relax, do hair and makeup, and for everyone to get dressed and not be too crowded for pictures… This is key to great getting-ready images! asheville wedding photographer shooting getting readypintopinterest asheville weddingpintopinterest asheville weddingpintopinterest We know that while planning your wedding you have an awful lot to think about!!!
