A wedding portrait in Grand Central Station during a NYC weddingpintopinterest Oh gosh you guys… Grab a favorite beverage and pull up a seat because this is going to be a long one… Back in August Matt and I traveled to New York City to photograph Heidi and Andrew’s wedding! The day started on land at The Plaza to be exact and ended cruising the Hudson River on a gorgeous yacht chartered by Elite Private Charters! Between intimate (haha.. you’ll see…) first look in front of a crowd at the stunning and historic Grand Central Station to wedding party pictures in Central Park, this wedding couldn’t have been more “New York” if you tried! We were thrilled to go along for the ride! A wedding portrait in Grand Central Station during a NYC weddingpintopinterest Despite being VERY busy, Grand Central was the backdrop for some of my favorite portraits from the day! You might remember these two from their fall engagement session in Asheville at the NC Arboretum. Needless to say, as awesome as their Asheville engagement was, their wedding was even better! Heidi planned their wedding out with precise detail and in spite of all the moving parts which left plenty to go wrong (you know NYC is not exactly known for quick travel), traffic kept moving (for the most part) and things came together perfectly!

I adored Heidi’s choice of flowers, her cascading bouquet made of white orchids was so classy! Grand Central Station wedding portraitspintopinterest Grand Central Station wedding portraitspintopinterest I’m not gonna lie… I was very worried about shooting bride and groom portraits in Grand Central! When we have a limited time for couples portraits I like being able to control the background, in this case I knew we’d be dealing with hundreds of moving people. What I never in a million years would have predicted is 1. Just how much those people in the background added to the pictures (especially the first look image above!) and 2. How courteous people were about stepping out of the way when asked (politely of course). The result ended up being some of my favorite couples portraits of the season! Check back tomorrow for images from Central Park and their epic sunset wedding ceremony + dance party on a yacht!

Tryon NC family and pet photographerpintopinterest When given the option of presents or a puppy for Christmas what do you think our kids chose?!?! You guessed it… A puppy! Now, this was no spur of the moment decision, Matt and I have talk about adding a canine kid to the mix for a couple years now… We would even visit the local humane society and cuddle the cute puppies. Our kids (particularly Aydon) has begged us for a few years now, to get a puppy and we’ve always been tempted but it was never the right time. When 2016 wedding season came to a close in November Matt and I finally decided it was time to add a 4 legged furry hiking pal to the mix. Once we decided it was a go, it didn’t take us long to make our way over to Greenville Humane Society (who is awesome by the way!) to pick out the latest addition to our family! Enter, Denali, the only brown pup amongst all her jet black brothers and sisters. Matt immediately picked her out! Tryon NC family and pet photographerpintopinterest This is Denali 2 weeks after we got her… she is wicked smart and has very quickly mastered simple commands like sit, wait, come. She is (knock on wood) entirely house trained and is beginning to learn simply tricks like “paw”. Go Denali! Tryon NC family and pet photographerpintopinterest We’ve had her for about 4 weeks now and she has become an irreplaceable member of our family. She is super loyal and takes daily naps with Piper (pictures of that soon!). It will be a while yet before she can go on longer hikes but we cannot wait till the day when we can take her adventuring in the mountains on her first backpacking trip! Stayed tuned for many more adventures!

Alaska pintopinterest “Although I deeply love oceans, deserts and other wild landscapes, it is only mountains that beckon me with that sort of painful magnetic pull to walk deeper and deeper into their beauty. They keep me continuously wanting to know more, feel more, see more.” By Victoria Erickson

The image above was taken on one of my summer adventure’s as a teenager in Alaska… I took it while hiking with my best friend in one of my very favorite places; Kennicott and McCarthy located in the gorgeous Wrangell St. Elias National Park. The quote above I find very accurate in describing my feelings about the mountains! Since I could drive (and even before then, with my parents), most of my free moments have been spent seeking out new adventures in the mountains, mainly in the Asheville area.

Now being wedding and lifestyle photographers we are so excited to be able to document other couples love and adventure in the mountains. While a large number of sessions and weddings recently have taken place here in Asheville, we do offer destination wedding collections throughout the United States and many locations have no travel fees! The Rocky Mountains in Colorado, the Pacific Northwest and anywhere in Alaska are three locations that we would absolutely love to be shooting more! Know anyone getting married and planning their wedding in any of these locations? We would love to tell their story!
